Burrows ...began her career as a child actress on radio and made her
Broadway theatre debut with Helen Hayes in Wisteria Trees directed by
the renowned Joshua Logan.
In
almost immediate succession came six more Broadway appearances with
William Marshall and Ossie Davis in the revival of Green Pastures;with
Claude Rains, in Jezebel’s Husband; with Mary Martin, George Abbott,
Helen Hayes in Skin of Our Teeth (played Paris, Washington, and a
limited run on Broadway); with Eartha
Kitt in Mrs. Patterson; with Will Geer and David Wayne in Eudora
Welty’s The Ponder Heart; with Franchot Tone and Dennis Hopper in
Mandingo.
OFF BROADWAY
Vinie garnered rave reviews in four off Broadway productions:
Chekhov’s The Cherry Orchard -- produced by the Classical Theatre of Harlem
Her one woman show celebrating the Black experience, Walk Together Children
A theatre happening celebrating women around the world Sister! Sister!
Dramatic vignettes of women from Africa, the Caribbean, South Pacific, England
and Australia was woven into a bold tapestry of moods, feelings, sounds and
vibrations from Africa and the Diaspora in the Her Talking Drum.
Ms. Burrows was in the original cast of The Blacks by Jean Genet with
Lou Gossett, Roscoe Brown, Roxie Roker, Godfrey Cambridge, Cicely
Tyson, Edmund Cambridge, Arthur French and many others. She also played
in Harlem’s Gift to Broadway.
